Fans of Gruner are likely used to seeing regions like Kamptal, and Kremstal listed as the place of origin on their respective wine labels, but Carnuntum? Likely not so much. Carnuntum is in the far eastern reaches of Austria, just a stone’s throw from the Danube River, as well as the borders of Hungary & Slovakia. A milder climate and sandy soils allow for a fresher, brighter style of wine and this Gruner is a marvelous example. The nose shows a white pepper, light stone fruits, citrus apple skin and a beeswax tone. The palate has a texture to it with pepper, apple, stone fruits, & loamy minerality.
